This section explains how to start ScanGear from GIMP and scan a document.

1. Place the document face-down on the platen glass.
2. Select [Create] -> [ScanGear MP...] from the [File] menu in GIMP.
The [Select Scanner] dialog is displayed.

If Ubuntu does not display [ScanGear MP...], first exit GIMP, execute the command below, and then restart GIMP. [user@zzz /yyy]$ sudo ln -sf /usr/bin/scangearmp /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins |
3. From the list, select the model you want to use, and then click [OK].
To use this machine with a USB connection, select "Canon MP495 series (libusb:port number)." To use this machine with a network connection, select "Canon MP495 series (MAC address).

The models displayed in the list consist of USB-connected scanners and network-connected scanners. |

Check the MAC address of this machine as follows: 1. Load the paper in the Rear Tray.
2. On the operation panel of the machine, press the Maintenance button repeatedly until the LED displays the following:
3. Press the Color or Black button. 4. Check the "MAC Address" from the printed network settings. |
4. Click [Preview].
The preview image is displayed in the preview area.
5. Configure setting items as required.
